The Wyoming Department of Health, Public Health Laboratory (WPHL) seeks an experiencedChemical Testing Laboratory Supervisorto lead a team of toxicologists and forensic evidence technicians. This position ensures the accurate, timely, and compliant analysis of biological samples for forensic and public health purposes. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Supervisor oversees daily lab operations, enforces quality assurance standards, and guides scientific staff in method development, data review, and regulatory compliance. The Supervisor plays a critical role in supporting criminal investigations, public health programs, and court proceedings through reliable toxicology testing and expert testimony. Selected candidates must be able to pass a standard background check.

Manage daily laboratory operations, case prioritization, and workflow to ensure timely results.
Supervise and train laboratory staff, conduct performance evaluations, and apply disciplinary measures as needed.
Lead development and preliminary validation of new toxicology testing methods.
Review data for accuracy and compliance; implement quality control measures.
Oversee routine testing, instrument calibration, maintenance, and inventory management.
Prepare technical reports, protocols, and documentation for audits and regulatory compliance.
Participate in continuing education and professional development to maintain program visibility and technical expertise.
PREFERENCES:
Master’s degree in a scientific discipline.
Prior supervisory experience in forensic or clinical laboratories.
Experience with quality systems, method validation, and regulatory compliance.
KNOWLEDGE:
Strong knowledge of forensic toxicology, pharmacology, and analytical chemistry.
Experience with advanced laboratory instrumentation and interpretation of complex results.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements, OSHA standards, chain of custody, and scientific ethics.
Ability to supervise and mentor staff, apply HR processes, and enforce disciplinary procedures.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical reports and courtroom testimony.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Science)
Experience:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in a medical or environmental laboratory) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Laboratory Scientist
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-7 years of progressive work experience (typically in a medical or environmental laboratory) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Laboratory Scientist

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
