Description

Research laboratory technologist positions are currently available in the Applied Imaging Mass Spectrometry (AIMS) Core directed by Professor Kristine Glunde at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. The technologist will help develop and run innovative mass spectrometry imaging applications in diverse biomedical research projects including oncology, pharmacology, infectious disease, neurology, radiology, pathology, and plastic surgery. The daily hands-on work includes cryo-sectioning, sample preparation, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) imaging, data analysis, preparation of data reports, as well as maintenance and upkeep of AIMS Core instrumentation and laboratory facilities. Together with the AIMS Core Team, the technologist will closely work with and support the users of the AIMS Core, and also work with industry partners and instrument vendors in maintaining and improving the cutting-edge instrumentation in the AIMS Core.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field, have research experience in analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and/or MALDI imaging, and a strong interest in mass spectrometry imaging technology applied to biomedical research. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. The successful applicant will work as part of a collaborative team and use a wide range of cutting-edge instrumentation, equipment, and laboratory facilities in the AIMS Core on the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus. Opportunities are available to attend and present at scientific meetings if desired.
