A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A Clinical Research Laboratory Technologist
This role is a hands-on bench position focused on supporting clinical research studies. Responsibilities include preparing and processing patient samples, operating laboratory instruments, and executing assays in strict accordance with approved SOPs and study plans. You will work closely with Clinical Research Scientists to support ongoing studies, follow experimental designs, and resolve technical issues to ensure accurate and timely testing. Daily tasks also include maintaining sample tracking and workflows in LIMS, performing routine quality control and equipment maintenance, and documenting results in compliance with quality and regulatory requirements. Depending on study needs, you may perform molecular techniques such as RNA/DNA extraction or PCR-based assays and support assay development, validation, and data review in a collaborative research laboratory environment.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology from an accredited institution, plus 1–2 years of experience in a clinical or research laboratory environment. And/or have completion of military training for laboratory technicians as high complexity testing. Completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training program.
Minimum coursework and training requirements:
24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses, including 6 semester hours of both Chemistry & Biology & an additional 12 semester hours in any combination of Chemistry, Biology, or Medical Laboratory
AND Completion of a clinical laboratory training program OR at least 3 months of documented laboratory trainingineachspecialtyareawheretheindividualwillperformhigh-complexity
Technical proficiency, scientific creativity, successful collaboration with others, and independent
The Clinical Research Technologist in the clinical research laboratory can be placed on a track towards obtaining American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Technologist in Molecular Biology (MB) board certification if not already credentialed upon hire and expected to obtain such a certification within 2 years of employment. (Only applicable to PHX)
PREFERRED
2-4 years clinical laboratory experience or 2-4 years of clinical research experience preferred.
