Classification Title Medical Lab Technician II FLSA Non-Exempt FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience Preferred Qualifications Position Summary Perform molecular diagnostic laboratory testing in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs). Testing materials include animal specimens that may contain a variety of infectious diseases. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Knowledge and skills of molecular biology, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, gel electrophoresis and next-generation sequencing. Ability to work in a team setting and provide general assistance to other personnel. Physical Demands

Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities Conduct diagnostic and surveillance testing, including handling specimens, nucleic acid extraction, performing PCR, real-time PCR, digital PCR, gel electrophoresis, PCR product cleanup and next-generation sequencing. The testing process also includes data interpretation and reporting of test results. Percentage of time 60 Duties/Responsibilities Assist in maintenance of lab equipment, supplies and inventory. Maintain necessary records and laboratory reports and other related duties assigned by the Faculty Supervisor and Laboratory Supervisor. Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities Assist research projects including planning & conducting experiments, analyzing data and reporting results. Participate in required proficiency tests. Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities Train & coach new employees and visiting students/scholars. Percentage of time 5
