The Laboratory Coordinator is a full-time position for the Department of Art, Graphic Design, and Art History including equipment maintenance for sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, and jewelry and metals areas. This autonomous position serves as a technical, content, and safety expert for all Art, Graphic Design, and Art History students. The coordinator will supervise students in the safe operation of power tools and equipment throughout the department. Additionally, the position will provide help and technical assistance for students working on projects in a variety of media. Maintaining an inventory of consumable items and ordering and purchasing replacements in a timely fashion is essential. The candidate must be comfortable with computers and have basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of the duties outlined and a willingness to learn how to perform the tasks listed that are unfamiliar and lead groups as well as individual students in proper technique and use of equipment. This position will teach one course per semester, either 2D or 3D Foundations.Special Instructions to Applicants

Bachelor's Degree in art or related field or two years post-secondary and two years experience or high school diploma and four years experience. Must have two years of related experience in a laboratory setting including the use and maintenance of woodworking tools, carpentry and mechanical skills and experience with 3D printers, laser cutters and CNC machines.
Must have a valid driver's license and access to an automobile on a regular basis.
Ability to lift 60 pounds. The tech may be exposed to potential danger in the woodworking shop through the use of the various pieces of equipment and tools used in that area, i.e., table saw, band saw, lather, jointer, planer, miter saw, router and sanders. Another area of potential danger would be in the welding area through various welding processes, i.e., oxy/acetylene, electric arc, TIG and MIG. Exposure to chemicals would be limited to solvents primarily and possibly some acid, patina and chemicals. In the ceramics studio there would be possible exposure to dust, glaze chemicals, hot kilns. There is occasional noise in the wood shop, welding and foundry areas but not excessive. Occasionally there is dust created in the studios. The individual will need to be able to arrange for a flexible schedule, sometimes working with students during scheduled classes and at other times when the studios are vacant.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's in Fine Arts and five years experience in the use and maintenance of woodworking, welding/metal fabrication, and foundry tools. Good carpentry and mechanical skills and experience with 3D printers, laser cutters and CNC machines.
